About Us

Our family grew up in Illinois, but every year we would escape to Venice, Florida to do our favorite thing in the world: hunt for shark teeth. Armed with a sand flea rake and a lot of patience, we spent entire days at places like Caspersen Beach sifting through shells and sand looking for whatever the tides had left behind.

Fossilized shark teeth. Ancient bones. The occasional “what in the world is THAT?” moment.

We were hooked.

Back home in Illinois we ran a snow plowing business through the long Chicago winters. As the snow piled up, we found ourselves dreaming about the beach and counting down the days until our next fossil hunt.

Over time we kept running into the same problem. The tools we were using just weren’t great for finding shark teeth. They were flimsy, inefficient, and honestly a little frustrating. Finding fossils shouldn’t be frustrating. It should be fun. It should feel possible for anyone.So we built our own solution.

In 2013, we designed what would become the Shark Tooth Sifter, a modern version of the traditional sand flea rake built specifically for shark tooth hunting. We added a mesh sifting area to make teeth easier to spot and built the tool to be stronger, more durable, and easier to use for both kids and adults.

After years of testing and refining it ourselves on Venice beaches, we patented the design. Because that first tooth moment is magic. And everyone deserves to experience it. 

In December of 2019, we made the move to Florida permanent and opened Shark Frenzy in Venice. What started as a passion for fossil hunting had turned into a place where we could share that excitement with visitors, collectors, and curious beach hunters from all over the world.

In 2023 we opened our second store, Fossil Frenzy, focused on fossils, shark teeth, and incredible finds sourced from local divers, diggers, and hunters.
